That’s What Friends Aren’t For!

I’ve had quite an emotional summer.  What felt like the best friendship I had been a part of in a long, long time came to a horribly fast, horribly sad ending.  It’s been difficult, and sad, and heartbreaking, and stressful.  But, unfortunately, that’s how things go sometimes.

Friendships are beautiful, wonderful, glorious things…when they work out. And, when they don’t? We’re left with heartache and disappointment and a reminder of all the things friends wouldn’t leave you feeling. Why scrap these broken, forgotten friendships? Because it’s part of our history, and working through those feelings can help us to heal and to grow. Besides, our memories of those good times don’t change, the people do.

Count The Ways

Six plus hours in the swimming pool yesterday left me incredibly red (I used sunscreen, but I guess I didn’t re-apply it frequently enough?) and incredibly exhausted.  Despite a several hour nap yesterday evening, I still didn’t crawl out of bed until almost 11 this morning!  Thank heavens for lazy summer days and a husband (and kids!) who lets me sleep in!

Despite my exhaustion today, I know I made some wonderful memories with my boys yesterday.  And in a world as fast paced and crazy as ours is, those moments we spend slowing down and just enjoying those around us and remembering what makes us love them so are so very important!

This month’s book sounds harsh, but I’ve read lots of reviews (without trying to get into spoilers) and talked to someone who read the book, and they promise me it’s not as dark and sad as it sounds. In fact, Goodreads describes the book as:

“Compelling, witty, and refreshingly real, Suicide Notes is a darkly humorous novel from award-winning author Michael Thomas Ford that examines that fuzzy line between “normal” and the rest of us.”

Here is the synopsis of the book:

I’m not crazy. I don’t see what the big deal is about what happened. But apparently someone does think it’s a big deal because here I am. I bet it was my mother. She always overreacts.

Fifteen-year-old Jeff wakes up on New Year’s Day to find himself in the hospital. Make that the psychiatric ward. With the nutjobs. Clearly, this is all a huge mistake.
