I previously mentioned losing my father this past summer—a heartache that cut deep. The pain, guilt, and loneliness were raw and crushing. I took a six-month hiatus from designing, even hesitating to turn on my computer. The sadness weighed heavily. But when I returned, I knew I had to dive headfirst into this grand collection. Creating something to honor my father felt like the only path forward—a tribute that would resonate with the depths of my emotions.
This journey was the most challenging in my design career. Tears flowed freely as I stared at the blank computer screen, questioning whether I could finish anything ever again. The emotions woven into this collection—hidden from the outside world—were intense. The idea of “finishing” it felt like closing a door on painful memories. Even now, I’m uncertain if I’m ready for that vulnerability, for the scrapping community to witness and judge.
Yet, there’s immense pride in what it became—a tribute that speaks volumes. Inspired by a Winnie the Pooh quote, “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard,” The Lucky One Collection embodies my father’s essence. His love, his role as a father, and the blessing of having known him—it’s all encapsulated here. Despite the sorrow, the loss, and the hurt, I recognize that I was truly The Lucky One to have had him in my life.
